Fuel hike: Niger Delta activist threatens groups ‘ll shut down country
A Niger Delta Human Rights Activist, Mr. Israel Joe, has said threatened civil society organisations will shut down the country if the Federal Government’s plans to remove subsidy from petroleum products was carried out.
The rumoured removal of the subsidy if carried out is expected to pave the way for the increase in prices petroleum product.
In a statement released in Warri, Delta State recently, the PUNCH quoted Joe as claiming that the civil society organizations will not hesitate to shut down Nigeria.
He said, “Nigerians will no longer tolerate the hardship brought upon us by this government. We listened gleefully to the speech of the president and it wasn’t clear if the subsidy would be removed or not.
“However, we have gotten from reliable source that the federal government of Nigeria has planned to remove Subsidy from petrol products towards end of February.
“Let it be on record that the federal government of Nigeria has not put forth any superior logical argument about the advantages of removing the longed acclaimed subsidy, as, it has never reflected on the lives of an average Nigerian, rather than suffering, pains, insecurity and stress.
“It is sacrosanct to inform the general public that we will shut down Nigeria the moment the federal government announced any hike in petroleum product.
“The CSOs in Delta State will meet to take a decision on this but I can say conveniently and confidentially that we will shut the economy down and Delta state will never play a second fiddle to the Struggle”
