Fubara presents 2024 budget to Rivers assembly

Published

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to the state House of Assembly during a plenary attended by five members.

27 members of the House, who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, were absent during the budget presentation.

This absence is reportedly connected to their recent defection to the All Progressives Congress and the subsequent division within the Peoples Democratic Party.

The faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, headed by Edison Ehie and loyal to Governor Fubara, relocated the plenary session to the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The five lawmakers present at the plenary session received the state’s 2024 budget proposal submitted by Governor Fubara for review.

Meanwhile, the other faction of lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule and loyal to Nyesom Wike, had previously initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, which ultimately failed.

In response to the factional disputes, the Rivers State High Court, presided over by Justice D.M. Danagogo, issued a restraining order against Martin Amaewhule, preventing him from interfering with the legislative functions of Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Edison Ehie.
