Flood may overrun Ikorodu, Ajegunle, Ogolonto, Lagos alerts residents

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday warned residents, especially those residing in areas contiguous to the Ogun River, on the need to relocate to avoid an impending flood disaster.

In a statement issued by the office of the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, the state expressed worry that the continuous steady release of water from the Oyan Dam might overrun some communities.

He therefore urged residents to be on standby.

The statement further said that officials of the state had been monitoring the release which was earlier announced through an advisory.

He listed areas where the release of water was felt as Isheri North, Kara, Itowolo, Ajegunle, Majidun and Ogolonto.

Bello specifically warned that residents who live in the downstream of Isheri Olofin up to part of Agboyi would experience flooding as earlier alerted.

The commissioner stressed that similarly, Onikoyi/Agelete community at Iba New Town at Iba LCDA were also experiencing flooding due to their closeness to the Yewa River.
