Five electrocuted in Gombe power surge, 13 others injured

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed that five people were electrocuted and 13 others injured in Tudun-Wadan Pantami, a community in Gombe Metropolis..

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, and was caused by a sudden high-voltage surge from a nearby electricity transformer.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, made this known in a statement released in Gombe. He said police officers from the Low-cost Divisional Police Headquarters quickly went to the scene after they got the report.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the unfortunate incident claimed the lives of five individuals, while thirteen others sustained various degrees of injuries,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the injured victims were taken to different hospitals in the state where they are currently receiving treatment.

“The deceased have been deposited at the following morgues: three at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, one at the State Specialist Hospital and one at Bolari Filin Kwallo Mortuary,” he said.

Abdullahi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, expressed deep sympathy to the families of those who died. He also wished the injured persons a quick recovery.

He promised that the police would carry out a full investigation to find out what caused the power surge and make sure the right steps are taken.

“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and cooperate with emergency and investigation teams as efforts are being made to prevent future occurrences,” he said.
