Five people have been charged in connection with the death of British singer Liam Payne, who died in October after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Argentine prosecutors announced on Monday that three individuals face manslaughter charges, while two others are charged with supplying the former One Direction singer with illegal drugs.

Payne, 31, died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of his room at the Casa Sur Hotel. According to prosecutors, he had consumed alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant before the fatal incident.

The three individuals charged with manslaughter include Payne’s representative, who was traveling with him, the hotel manager, and the head of the hotel’s reception desk.

The other two suspects, a hotel employee and a waiter Payne had met elsewhere in Buenos Aires, have been accused of providing him with illegal drugs. These two are currently in custody, while the others remain free.

Payne’s death caused an outpouring of grief worldwide. Thousands of fans, family members, and former bandmates gathered in different cities to honor his memory.

Before his death, Payne had been open about his struggles with substance abuse and the challenges of dealing with fame from a young age.

Prosecutors had previously disclosed that Payne’s toxicology report confirmed the presence of drugs and alcohol in his system at the time of his death.
