Nollywood actress Omotunde Ogundimu has appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance as she battles cervical cancer and struggles with the growing cost of treatment.
According to The PUNCH, the actress disclosed during an interview with colleague Biola Bayo that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2024 after undergoing a series of medical tests.
“It was when I did those tests that they said I had cervical cancer. I said, ‘Where did I get cancer from?’” she recalled.
Ogundimu said the illness has affected her physically, emotionally and financially, despite receiving assistance from several people and her children.
Actress says treatment drains family
The veteran actress said her children have spent much of their earnings caring for her, leaving little for their own needs.
“I no longer have the strength. I have called several people, and many have helped me. My children have also been spending all their income to take care of me,” she said.
Ogundimu said she eventually decided to seek public assistance despite knowing the appeal could expose her to criticism.
“The pain is too much,” she said, explaining that getting better had become her immediate priority.
35 years in Nollywood
Ogundimu also lamented declining acting opportunities despite spending about 35 years in the Nigerian film industry.
The widowed mother of three said she sometimes receives between N20,000 and N40,000 for acting roles.
She appealed to people within the industry to support her and forgive her if she had unknowingly offended anyone during her career.
