No fewer than 10 shops were completely razed by fire on Monday night at the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan.

He said the agency received a distress call from the Baale of Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal, at exactly 8:11 p.m. on Monday. Firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene and found 10 shops already engulfed by flames.

“Our officers swiftly got into action and prevented the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties while the Federal Fire Service also joined hands with us to extinguish the fire,” Akinwande said.

He attributed the cause of the fire to the fueling of an operating generator by one of the shop occupants.

No casualties were recorded during the incident. The chairman commended police personnel from Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing security at the scene.
