Fire guts Bauchi Varsity, destroys vital documents
The department of Agricultural Sciences, a section of the buildings in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, was on Wednesday evening razed by fire.
Tribune reported that the fire incident, which source was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
Eyewitnesses disclosed the incident happened in the evening of Wednesday, just a few minutes after 8.00 pm at the Gubi permanent campus of the university along with Kano road.
Reports further said that students and other people around the area scampered for safety while spirited efforts were made to douse the flame from spreading to other sections of the university.
According to a source in the school, the incident occurred when the building was almost empty thereby ruling out the possibility of casualties.
He, however, confirmed that valuable documents and other items were gutted by the fire outbreak.
All efforts to get official confirmation from the University authorities proved abortive as of the time of filing this report as no official of the University was ready to make comments but the information was sketchy.
