FG waives VAT on diesel for six months
The Federal Government has announced the removal of the value-added tax on diesel for the next six months.
The Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris, made the announcement on Sunday after a meeting between government officials and labour unions.
“VAT on diesel will be waived for the next 6 months,” he said, noting that it was part of the resolutions reached during the meeting with organised labour in Abuja.
The government also said it is committed to fast-tracking the provision of Compressed Natural Gas buses to ease public transportation difficulties associated with the removal of PMS subsidy.
The waiver of VAT on diesel is part of the government’s efforts to cushion the effect of the rising cost of transportation on Nigerians.
The removal of the subsidy has led to a significant increase in the price of petrol, which has caused hardship for many Nigerians.
