FG offers free train rides on Port Harcourt-Aba railway
The Federal Government has declared a four-day free passenger train service on the recently restored Port Harcourt to Aba railway line, offering commuters an opportunity to experience the revamped transportation route.
In an announcement made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Oloruntola Oluremi, on Tuesday night the free train rides will be available from May 1 to May 4, 2024. Oluremi stated, “There will be a free train ride between Port-Harcourt and Aba on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May 2024.”
He also specified the schedule, saying, “The train will be departing Port-Harcourt everyday by 8 am for Aba. It will also be departing Aba every day for Port -Harcourt by 3 pm.”
Additionally, he noted that full commercial operations will resume on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
This initiative aims to provide citizens with a chance to experience the convenience and efficiency of the rehabilitated railway line.
The Port Harcourt-Aba rail line was inaugurated on Tuesday following rehabilitation efforts spearheaded by the Minister of Transport, Senator Said Alkali.
During the inauguration, Alkali emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing trade facilitation and improving mobility across the country.
