FG, Finance Minister commend Huawei, requests more partnership

The Federal Government has commended Huawei for its significant contributions to the development of the nation’s digital economy.

Huawei, which has been operating in Nigeria for over two decades, currently provides Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure which makes network connection accessible and affordable to over half of the Nigerian population.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, who praised Huawei for being an efficient organisation, having visited the company in Beijing to see how the company operates, urged Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited to continue to help with providing affordable solutions that would guarantee digital value additions and accessibility to more Nigerian rural communities.

This was stated during the courtesy visit by Trevor Liu, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited to meet with Mrs Ahmed.

According to the minister, COVID-19the education system has been most impacted by  and only students and children in the cities have been able to have access to digital learning.

“A lot of our kids and students in the rural communities are not fortunate enough to plug into such platform,” She said.

She, therefore, appealed and wished Huawei could look into the prospect of rural telephony.

She also requested that the company takes a look at the possibility of bringing assembly plants and repair workshops that could help create jobs and expand the value chain for the Nigerian citizenry, noting that the country is a big market.

Mr. Trevor Liu, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited, who acknowledged that his visit was aimed at expressing appreciation and support to the Honourable Minister, stated that as the leading information communication technology (ICT) solution supplier in Nigeria, Huawei will continue to provide accessible and affordable network; as it already does to over half of the Nigerian population.

According to him, after China, Nigeria is the second country in the world that benefits from Huawei’s technical training to boost the capacity and skills of the Nigerian workforce.

He said that the company, which is training-oriented, has been providing world-class training free of charge to many Nigerian universities and telecommunication companies. He also stated that Huawei has established International Training Centres in Abuja, Innovation and Experience Centre and Regional Network Operation Centre (RNOC) in Lagos.

The company has also engaged in ICT for government and economic development having been involved in the improvement of ICT infrastructure of government e-education, e-health, e-customs, e-commerce, e-post, e-government and smart city technology. Huawei is also engaged in the National Cloud Data Centre, building Nigeria Data Sovereignty, all to improve government efficiency, promote economic development, and accelerate the social digital transformation. The company’s digital solution has also helped to facilitate trade and increase revenue through e-government platform.
