The Federal Capital Territory Administration has sealed off one of the offices of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and Access Bank in Abuja over alleged failure to pay ground rent.
The incident happened on Monday, May 26, and was confirmed by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the FCT Minister.
Olayinka shared the news through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, though full details have not yet been released.
Ground rent is a fee paid by property owners to the government for land use. Government agencies, like other property holders, are expected to pay this fee regularly.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the FIRS nor the FCTA has given a full statement on the amount owed or how long the rent has been unpaid.
The closure of a federal tax office over unpaid dues has caused mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for transparency and equal treatment of all institutions, including government agencies.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
