Fatal road crash claims six lives on Kaduna-Zaria expressway

Published

A tragic road accident on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway has resulted in six fatalities and 11 injuries, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kaduna Sector Command.

The Sector Commander, Mr. Kabir Nadabo, revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna that the multiple accidents occurred at Aliko filling station on Tuesday around 06:25 hrs.

The FRSC promptly responded to the scene, attributing the crash to speeding and dangerous driving. Mr. Nadabo explained that the road was temporarily closed to facilitate the rescue operation, conducted by the Zebra 35 Rigachikun rescue team.

“Initial investigation of the crash revealed that 23 people were involved; 11 were injured, and sadly, six lost their lives,” Nadabo reported. The incident involved a Toyota bus traveling from Ilesha to Batsari, Katsina State. The driver, operating at high speed, lost control and collided with another moving vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.

Nadabo expressed concern about the frequent road traffic crashes on the Kaduna-Zaria highway, attributing them mostly to motorists from other states, often fatigued.

As the lead agency in transport management and road safety, FRSC Kaduna State emphasized its commitment to saving lives and property, along with creating awareness about road safety practices.

“Kaduna State is a critical corridor; therefore, the state command has established instruments of safety that will guide transporters on the importance of safe travel in this Yuletide season and beyond,” Nadabo affirmed.

He urged transport unions and stakeholders to collaborate in advocating safety language for their drivers. The FRSC is actively engaging with media outlets to raise awareness about the perils of dangerous driving, overloading, using worn-out tires, and driver fatigue due to extended journeys.

Nadabo appealed to all road users to adhere to safe driving ethics, emphasizing the role of education in reducing road traffic crashes.
