Hollywood actor, Johnny Depp has filed a $50 million lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The actor is claiming defamation over Heard’s allegations that he physically abused her during their marriage.

It would be recalled that Heard, an actress, in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post described the backlash she experienced after speaking out about domestic abuse.

She wrote that she “felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women” after making allegations of abuse. Although her editorial never identified Depp by name, but his lawsuit filed in Fairfax County, Virginia Circuit Court alleged the article was clearly about the accusations she’d made against Depp as their marriage crashed in 2016.

Depp, who played the role of Jack Sparrow in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”, after several months of enduring public shame as an abuser is now coming out to say his ex-wife’s allegations of abuse are false. His lawsuit referred to Heard’s claims as nothing more than an “elaborate hoax,” and presented evidence that suggested Depp was the one who endured physical abuse during the marriage and not the other way around.

The suit also states that Heard’s abuse allegations “have been conclusively refuted by two separate responding police officers, a litany of neutral third-party witnesses, and 87 newly obtained surveillance camera videos.”

The lawsuit refers to an alleged incident in which Heard threw a bottle of vodka at Depp, resulting in an injury that required hand surgery. The suit also accuses Heard of punching Depp as he was in bed, kicking him on numerous occasions, and even staging her own attacks.

Depp’s legal team believes Heard fabricated her claims in an effort to propel her career as the #MeToo movement was in full swing.

As more details surrounding Depp’s lawsuit against Heard come to public knowledge, Depp’s supporters are calling for justice for the actor after enduring shame of being tagged as an abuser.

Fans across the world have also taken to social media to show strong support for the actor, commending him for his courage to speak out as the real victim of domestic abuse.

“So we cancelled Johnny Depp for being an abuser when all along he was the one being abused? I’m sick”

TV host, Grace Randolph (@GraceRandolph) also said:

“I remember reading the pain Johnny Depp felt knowing that people looked at him and saw an abuser – I’m glad he is finally getting justice… Also it looks like we might need a new Mera ?”
