Fans shocked as Glenn Close lost at Oscars for the seventh time
Some fans of American actress, Glenn Close, were shocked on Sunday night as she lost at the Oscars for the seventh time to become the actress with the most nominations without a win at the Oscars.
The 91st Oscars ceremony held on Sunday at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California.
The Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honoured the best films of 2018.
71-year-old Close, who is also a singer and producer has been nominated seven times in the Oscars.
She is, however, a recipient of other accolades including three each of Tony Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards.
In the history of the Oscars, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 1982, 1983 and 1984 for her roles in “The World According to Garp”, “The Big Chill” and “The Natural” respectively.
She got Best Actress nominations in 1987, 1988, 2011 and 2018 for her roles in “Fatal Attraction”, “Dangerous Liaisons”, Albert Nobbs” and “The Wife”.
Close was expected to have a win for her role in her most recent film, “The Wife” (2018), where she played a self-sacrificing woman who gave up her aspirations to support her author- husband, who is about to realise his life’s crowning achievement.
Film enthusiasts and fans of Close were surprised when Olivia Coleman beat her to clinch the best actress prize for her role in “The Favorite“.
Since the announcement, some fans have taken to Twitter to react to her loss at the Oscars.
@ScotFeinberg tweeted, “Very happy for Olivia Coleman, but devastated for Glenn Close, who remains the most Oscar-nominated performer alive, who has not yet won an Oscar. Now 0-for-7. I might throw up.”
@Marissamitchell wrote, “I am LEGIT angry that Glenn Close didn’t get her Oscar that was already long overdue. #Oscars.”
@Euanrellie wrote, “A seven-time Academy Award nominee, #GlennClose has more nominations without a win than any other living actor, and holds the record for being the actress with the most nominations without winning.”
@Ynb tweeted, “I loved Olivia in this film but wow #GlennClose was my choice of the best actress nominee. She was amazing in #TheWife. I’m shocked. Happy for Olivia, but wow… just shocked.”
