FA CUP: Man City qualify for semis after surviving Everton test
Manchester City have qualified for the semi-finals of the FA CUP after beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side were held for over an hour before unlocking Carlo Ancelotti’s side late in the game to keep their quadruple trophy hopes alive.
Illkay Gundogan scored the defining goal with a header from a rebound effort that nicked the woodwork in the 84th minute.
Kevin De Bruyne made it 2-0 in the 90th minute and it took minutes of check from the VAR before the referee awarded City the goal after Everton players called for a foul in the build-up.
Meanwhile, Southampton qualified for the semifinals earlier on Saturday after defeating Championship side, Bournemouth 3-0.
Moussa Djenepo’s 37th-minute opener and Nathan Redmond’s brace (45+1′, 59′) made the difference for the Saints at the Dean Court stadium.
The Citizens and Saints await the outcome of the remaining semifinals between Chelsea vs Sheffield United and Leicester City vs Manchester United which would be played on Sunday.
