Jake Hager, the former WWE and AEW professional wrestler better known as Jack Swagger and a former MMA fighter, and Patricia Blackburn, a Power Slap competitor, have announced their engagement following a difficult period for Hager.
Hager, 44, has been competing in Power Slap since making his debut earlier this year, while Blackburn is also an active athlete in the promotion.
The engagement comes shortly after Hager suffered a serious eye injury during his Power Slap bout with Johnny Magna at Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas.
Magna stopped Hager via doctor stoppage in the third round, with Hager subsequently requiring emergency eye surgery.
Patricia Blackburn later addressed Hager’s condition, saying that his recovery was being handled privately while thanking fans and members of the UFC and Power Slap communities for their support.
“Thank you to the UFC and Power Slap family for the incredible love and support you’ve shown Jake during this difficult time,” Blackburn said. “Jake is currently recovering from an emergency eye surgery. We’re taking things one day at a time and keeping the details private, but your kindness, support, and genuine concern have meant more than you know.”
Despite the concerning injury, the couple now has a major personal milestone to celebrate.
Hager and Blackburn announced their engagement through Slap News, with Power Slap subsequently congratulating the pair and referring to them as the promotion’s first official couple.
“What happens in Lubbock ❤️ Please join us in congratulating Jake Hager and Patricia Blackburn on their engagement, making them the first official Power Slap couple!” the promotion announced.
The news gives Hager and Blackburn a positive moment amid Hager’s ongoing recovery from the eye injury.
