Former Minister of Communications, Tajudeen Olanrewaju, has intensified his call for urgent intervention in response to the worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s South-West, warning that decisive measures are now unavoidable.

He stressed that the situation has reached a point where the declaration of a state of emergency is increasingly necessary to trigger the activation of comprehensive contingency plans across affected states.

Olanrewaju proposed that state governors should consider involving experienced retired military officers, noting that their expertise could prove critical in shaping effective strategies to confront the escalating threat.

According to him, such senior retired personnel could be recalled by state chief executives for consultation and advisory roles aimed at strengthening security responses and restoring stability.

He maintained that coordinated planning and professional military insight are essential if authorities are to effectively manage the growing security challenges in the region.

“The declaration of a State of Emergency is knocking for serious contingency plans to be activated. Senior retired armed services officers could be recalled in each state by the Chief Executive for consultation and advice on the way forward,” he said.
