Ex-deputy speaker, Ike Ekweremadu, clocks 58 today
Former Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is celebrating his 58th birthday today, May 12.
The famed politician and lawyer who hails from Enugu State took to his verified Facebook page to mark the beginning of a new year with a family photo that included his wife and their four children.
“It’s my birthday. Thank you, Lord, for your mercies, grace, love, blessings, and faithfulness. It has indeed been God all the way,” he wrote
“I equally appreciate you all – family, friends, supporters, associates, and Nigerians – for your love and support through the years,” he added.
Ekweremadu served in the Senate of Nigeria since May 2003. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party and was the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate for three consecutive (6th, 7th and 8th) senate.
He holds both a Bachelors and master’s degree in Law from the University of Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Law from the University of Abuja, Nigeria.
On February 23, 2019, Ekweremadu was re-elected as senator representing the Enugu West senatorial district For the Fifth Consecutive time, defeating his closest rival, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He however his bid to become Deputy Senate President of the Nigerian 9th Senate on June 11, 2019 to Ovie Omo-Agege and afterwards, Ekweremadu has indicated he will retire from the Nigerian Senate by not running for office in 2023.
