Everybody knows we are tired, entitled to have Yoruba Nation – Igboho’s Lawyer
The Coordinator of Legal Affairs for Yoruba Self-Determination Movement Worldwide, Olasupo Ojo, says the indigenous people who are descendants of Oranmiyan in Benin Republic are in support of the self-actualisation of Oodua Republic.
Ojo who is the head counsel of the defence team of the embattled Sunday Igboho who is in Cotonou detention for an immigration-related offence made the disclosure on Wednesday during the PUNCH Online programme, The Roundtable.
WuzupNigeria reported that Igboho was arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, alongside his German wife, Ropo – who has since been released – while trying to fly to Germany at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, and was remanded in the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou.
Recall that weeks before the arrest of Igboho who championed the self-actualisation for Yoruba Nation, the Department of State Services raided his Ibadan residence, killing two of his associates before he was declared wanted.
Ojo, during the interview, faulted the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) for rejecting the call for a Yoruba Nation having supported that of Palestine during a United Nations’ Summit on Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform in September 2015, in New York.
The lawyer said, “Yoruba has a presence in several countries. If you see that monarchs rose up in defence of Sunday Igboho, it is to tell you the influence of the nation.
“Everybody knows that we are tired and entitled to having our country. Yoruba in Benin Republic are aware and in support of this. When they heard that a peaceful campaign for the Yoruba Nation has challenges in Benin Republic, they rose up because they see him as their own child.”
