EURO 2020: Spain thump Slovakia 5-0 to reach last 16

Spain secured a round of 16 qualification at the EURO 2020 tournament by thrashing Slovakia 5-0.

The Spaniards turned up for the party in their third match to bag the country’s first win of the competition after playing a draw in their previous two games against Sweden and Poland.

Alvaro Morata missed a chance to put Spain ahead by failing to convert a penalty in the 12th minute but Martin Dubravka handed them the lead with an own goal in the 30th minute.

Ayemeric Laporte doubled the lead late in the first half before Pablo Sarabia made it three in the 56th minute by pouncing on a Jordi Alba assist.

Sarabia turned provider in the 67th minute when he teed up Manchester City’s Ferran Torres who made it 4-0.

Slovakia wrapped up the mauling for Spain with another own goal by Juraj Kucka in the 71st minute.

Spain’s 5-0 win over Slovakia helped them with a second placed finish behind Sweden in Group E.
