Eti-Osa rerun election is a miracle – Banky W
Federal House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and singer Bankole Wellington, famously known as Banky W, has described the Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling ordering a rerun in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency as a “miracle.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Banky W said the ruling was a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and the collective will of the people who want to participate in rebuilding Nigeria’s democracy.
The tribunal nullified the victory of Mr. Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party, declaring the election inconclusive, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections did not hold.
The ruling came after complaints were submitted by Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress and Banky W, who finished second.
“For me personally, it’s a miracle in and of itself that we get another chance to finish the election,” Banky W said. “I think it’s a testament to the power of perseverance, the power of faith, and the collective will of the people who want to participate in the rebuilding of this democracy.“
He added that the ruling was important because it showed that people’s constitutional rights to participate in elections would not be taken away.
“People were really frustrated that they didn’t get a chance to participate in that election,” Banky W said.
