Less than 48hours after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2020 Oscars, the video has shattered Yotube's record of view in a single day.

According to UK Sun, the video which became viral moments after the duo's altercation hit 50 million views, surpassing the previous holder by seven million.

The previous holder, a clip posted by Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson in November 2021, racked up 43million hits in a 24-hour period.

MrBeast's video was handed the accolade just four months ago.

Recall that Smith slapped Rock after the comedian appeared to make a joke about the hair loss suffered by his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, due to her struggles with alopecia.

Recall that American YouTuber MrBeast's record stood the most views on a non-music or trailer video in a 24-hour period.

The video, according to the publication, was the highly-anticipated recreation of Netflix's Squid Game, which had 42.6million views a day after it hit the site.

Having broken that record with 50million hits in a day, Will Smith's smack was at 69million views as of Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Will has since tendered a public apology to the 'Everybody Hates Chris' actor as well as The Academy for his actions.

However, Rock is yet to release a public comment on the issue.
