Grammys 2022: Angelique Kidjo won because song celebrates #EndSARS victims – Yemi Alade
Afro-pop Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade, on Monday explained why Beninese-American music icon, Angelique Kidjo’s ‘Mother Nature’ album won Best Global Music Album at the 64th Grammy Awards ceremony.
The delectable singer disclosed that beyond celebrating Africa’s uniqueness, Kidjo’s award-winning song also tells the story of victims of the #EndSARS protest as well as climate change.
Yemi revealed this in a tweet on Sunday after Angelique Kidjo defeated Wizkid and Femi Kuti to win in that category.
She retweeted a post by @PapiWater explaining that Mother Nature celebrated victims of the #EndSARS protest in Nigeria and climate change.
She said, “Angelique Kidjo dropped an album in which the headline song talked about.
“Stop playing. Please take your time to listen to the album. Listen to ‘Africa, One of a Kind’ and ‘Mother Nature’ Drop your Pangolo expectations before you listen to them so you can enjoy good music.”
Yemi’s collaboration with Kidjo on the album also earned her a Grammy.
