#EndSARS: We have secured release of Ojabodu, other arrested protesters – Gbajabiamila

Published

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, has confirmed the release of Ademola Ojabodu and other arrested EndSARS protesters.

About seven persons were arrested during the peaceful protest that was disrupted by policemen who fired live rounds at protesters, killing a civilian in the process at the Barracks, Surulere area of Lagos State.

Although the police claimed that protesters also killed an officer, the report was debunked by protesters online, claiming that the officer died as a result of friendly fire from a fellow officer.

After an outcry on Twitter for the release of all arrested protesters, including Ojobadu who was transferred to Panti Police Station, Gbajabiamila tweeted that he has ensured the release of the detained persons.

Prior to the release of the six arrested protesters, the speaker had informed Lagosians of efforts by himself and the Honourable representing Surulere Constituency 1, Desmond Elliot to secure the release of the detained persons.

“I have spoken to the CP Lagos and I am in touch with my member representing Surulere, in the State Assembly, Hon Desmond Elliot who is presently on his way to Area C Police station where some protesters are being held. We will ensure that People’s rights are not violated,” he tweeted.
Gbajabiamila added moments later that, “Gladly we have been able to secure the release of ADEMOLA OJABODU the last of the 6 arrested people. We must and will continue to protect our rights at all times.”
