An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Oluwapelumi Adewale Ogundipe to three years imprisonment after convicting him for stealing, despite initially standing trial for conspiracy and armed robbery.
The verdict was delivered by High Court 4 in Suit No. HAD/32C/2025 between the State and Ogundipe Oluwapelumi Adewale.
Ogundipe had earlier been arraigned alongside one Alasi Kolawole over allegations bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery. The prosecution claimed that the defendant and others collaborated to rob a victim, an offence punishable under the laws of Ekiti State.
During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Kunle Sina Adeyemo Esq., Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Ekiti State, tendered evidence in support of the charges against the defendant. After evaluating the testimonies and materials presented before the court, Justice A.A. Adeleye ruled that the prosecution failed to sufficiently prove the charge of armed robbery.
The court, however, held that the evidence established the lesser offence of stealing. Consequently, Justice Adeleye convicted Ogundipe on that count and sentenced him to three years in prison.
The defendant was represented throughout the trial by his counsel, A.O. Okeya Esq.
The ruling is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice to secure convictions in criminal matters and strengthen accountability for crimes committed within the state.
