Claims of vote buying have trailed the Ekiti State governorship election conducted on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with accusations of financial inducement emerging from several polling units across the state.

Various videos circulating online, alongside posts on social media platforms, alleged that voters received money in exchange for support during the election.

Some of the claims also accused political parties of distributing cash to influence the voting process.

However, neither the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nor security agencies had independently verified the allegations as of the time this report was filed.

Observers monitoring the election, as well as journalists deployed to different parts of the state, reported isolated incidents of tension accompanied by allegations of electoral misconduct.

Despite the claims, there has been no official confirmation of widespread or coordinated vote-buying activities.

INEC has repeatedly warned political parties and voters against electoral malpractice, including inducement, stressing that any confirmed violations would attract sanctions in line with electoral laws.

With the collation of results still underway, political stakeholders and civic groups have appealed to residents to remain peaceful and avoid drawing conclusions from unverified reports, videos, or social media content.

Meanwhile, authorities are expected to examine and investigate any credible evidence of electoral misconduct that may emerge following the completion of the voting process.
