Ekiti police confirm release of abducted Chinese expatriate after five days
The Chinese expatriate abducted five days ago in Ekiti State has regained his freedom, the state’s police command confirms.
Recall that Wuzup Nigeria reported the kidnap of the expatriate(one of the engineers working with the Chinese company handling the new Ado-Iyin road) last Friday.
A policeman was also killed by the kidnappers during the incident which occurred around 4:30 p.m. along the new Ado Ekiti-Iyin Ekiti road.
However, Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) in Ekiti state ASP Sunday Abutu said security operatives secured the victim’s release after a serious manhunt.
“Yes, he was released after a serious manhunt and pressure from the security operatives around Ilawe-Igede at about 11:30 pm on Tuesday,” he said.
However, a source close to the construction company alleged that a ransom of N100 million was paid to the kidnappers to secure the expatriate’s release.
“The Chinese was released very late on Tuesday after payment of ransom to the kidnappers.
“The N100 million was taken to a bush in Kwara State where the kidnappers collected and confirmed it before the man was released here at a very difficult location along Igede-Ilawe road,” the source said.
