Ekiti PDP chieftain alleges SDP infiltration

Published

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka, has raised concerns about individuals purportedly from the Social Democratic Party falsely presenting themselves as PDP members.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka, the former Chief Press Secretary to ex-governor Ayo Fayose, alleged that those who advocated for Fayose’s suspension over his support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji were actually associated with the SDP.

He stated, “Those who ganged up against the PDP during the 2022 governorship election and the 2023 National Assembly elections should stop misleading the public by claiming to be PDP members.”

Olayinka expressed skepticism about the credibility of these individuals, pointing out their involvement in opposing the PDP during recent elections.

He questioned their sudden identification as PDP members, particularly highlighting a meeting where he recognized the spokesperson’s prior association with the SDP.

Reflecting on his former boss, Fayose, Olayinka defended him as a statesman with the right to support any candidate.

However, he emphasized the importance of the PDP having a clear direction to prevent members from pursuing individual political agendas, stating, “Until PDP as a party begins to have a clear direction, its members will continue to do their own politics as it pleases them.”

The Chairman, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC, Hashim Abioye has revealed that he is no longer a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
