The Ekiti State Police Command has reported the arrest of eight suspects connected to the recent killing of two traditional rulers and the abduction of pupils in the state.

Ekiti has been facing a series of attacks, with the most recent incident on January 29, where two Ekiti monarchs, the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, were killed by gunmen.

The attackers also targeted a school bus in the same area, abducting five pupils, three teachers, and the bus driver from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools.

In a statement on Sunday, the Ekiti State Police Command revealed that the suspects were apprehended during a joint operation spanning Emure-Ekiti Forest, Ise/Ogbese Forest to Emure-Ile Forest in Ondo State.

The operation involved police operatives, Amotekun corps, vigilantes, local hunters, and members of the Agbekoya Group, along with policemen and Amotekun Corps from Ondo State.

The arrested suspects include Yaya Sumaila, Idrisu Abubakar, Hassan Abudullahi, Abudullahi Abudullahi, Haruna Abubakar, Usman Abudullahi, Haruna Sule, and Babusa Alhaji Lede.

The police spokesperson, Abutu Sunday, stated that the suspects are currently under investigation and are providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing suspects.

“The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and are giving credible information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing suspects that perpetrated the dastard acts,” said Abutu Sunday.

He urged the public to remain calm and support the police with credible information, adding that the command will not rest until the fleeing culprits face the full wrath of the law.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one cow, three cutlasses, one axe, one dagger, and food items.
