The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has come under fire on social media after a mugshot of Adeyinka Bilikis Gbadamosi, a Lagos woman sentenced to six months imprisonment for currency racketeering, featured a misspelling.
The word “racketeering” was spelled as “recketeering,” sparking widespread criticism online.
Adeyinka Bilikis Gbadamosi was arrested on April 27, 2024, while hawking Naira notes at 10 Degree Event Centre, Billings Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
She was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on May 29, 2024.
She pleaded guilty to the charge of engaging in hawking the sum of N897,900, with N200 and N500 Naira note denominations.
Justice Aneke sentenced Gbadamosi to six months imprisonment, with an option of a N50,000 fine. The judge also ordered that the N897,900 recovered from her be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
However, the focus quickly shifted online to the EFCC’s blunder on the convict’s mugshot. Nigerians took to social media to express their outrage and disappointment.
