Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr Lawan Jimeta on Wednesday paraded 41 suspects arrested in connection with various degrees of crimes in the state just as it charged fifteen of them to court.

Jimeta addressing journalists in Benin said thirty of the suspects were arrested for cultism and various cult clashes in the state while five suspects were arrested for kidnapping.

In the same vein, three of the suspects were arrested for rape, two for child abuse and one for robbery.

According to him, “thirty (30) suspected cultists belonging to different cult confraternities were arrested at different locations within the state for engaging in cultism, disturbance of public peace, armed robbery, and murder.

Thirteen of them have been charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.

“In the same vein, on the 11th of January, 2020, two (2) kidnappers namely; Aikhue Endurance ‘m’ and Aikhue Eligah ‘m’ were arrested at their criminal hideouts for the alleged kidnap and murder of one Faith Esekhagbona ‘f’, a student of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi on the 9th of December, 2019. The suspects have been charged to court and are currently remanded and are in safe custody.”

The Police Commissioner also said:

“in a rather nauseating development, one Joshua John ‘m’ aged 26 years and Ezinna Edwin ‘f’ aged 25 years were arrested on the 3rd of March 2020 along Third East Circular Junction, off Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City with a set of twins and two other babies of different mothers (two males and two females) for conspiring with the mothers of the said children; Mary Effiong, Rebecca Okon and Happiness Azukwo and using them to beg for alms.”

He further disclosed that on 23rd of February 2020, one Reverend Imoagadame Eseigbe John ‘m’, a self-acclaimed pastor residing at Ewu in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State was arrested for allegedly raping a 14year old female.

“A medical report obtained from the hospital revealed bruises on the private part of the victim. The suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation. In another development, on the 4th of March 2020 one Junior David ‘m’ aged 17 years was arrested at Ubiaja for allegedly raping and robbing one Helina Aborsi ‘f’ aged 75 years of Onogholo Quarters, Ubiaja. The suspect after raping the victim robbed her of the sum of N10,000.00 while armed with a cutlass. Case is still under investigation,” he said.

Jimeta said the Command, wishes to place on record the continued assistance of other security stakeholders and the cooperation of the good people of Edo State in volunteering credible information that has led to these laudable achievements.

“We implore them to be more vigilant and to report any clandestine activity in their domain for prompt attention of the Police and other security agencies as we guarantee them of our worthy stewardship and a safe community at all time,” he said.
