As Christians across Nigeria prepare to celebrate Easter, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered strong security measures to ensure a peaceful holiday.

In a statement on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP also sent warm Easter wishes to Christians and urged them to reflect on the values of hope, sacrifice, and renewal that the season represents.

Egbetokun directed all Commissioners of Police and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General to increase visibility patrols, improve intelligence gathering, and maintain strong surveillance across their areas.

He also ordered the deployment of police officers to churches, fun spots, major roads, and public places during the celebration to prevent any security issues.

“The IGP hereby directs Commissioners of Police across all State Commands and Formations, and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to enhance visibility policing, extended vigilance, and intelligence gathering to ensure a safe and secure festive celebration for all citizens,” the statement said.

The police chief also stressed the need for regular patrols and proper placement of officers in key locations to quickly respond to any threats.

He called on Nigerians to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities or threats.

Egbetokun further advised the public to celebrate in moderation and warned against reckless driving, especially on highways during the Easter period.

“The IGP calls on members of the public to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing the breakdown of law and order during this period. Citizens are therefore urged to remain security conscious, act with moderation, and avoid reckless driving on highways during the festive period and beyond,” the statement added.
