DSS arrests man for allegedly creating, sharing video depicting Buhari’s marriage to minister
The Department of State Services (DSS), on Friday, arrested a man for allegedly creating and sharing a fake video depicting the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) marriage to his ministers.
The DSS paraded 32-year-old Kabiru Mohammed from Kano who allegedly created a fake video depicting the marriage of President Buhari to the Ministers of Finance and that of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, DSS Spokesperson, Peter Afunaya warned against the spread of fake news as the service remains committed to the peace and stability of Nigeria.
He added that the service acted on a formal complaint by the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed.
In October the internet was awash with reports that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, was going to get married to Buhari.
Farouq denied the speculation by issuing a disclaimer after a parody Twitter account created in her name made post on the alleged affair.
The minister, via her handle (@Sadiya_farouq), had tweeted:
“It has come to my attention that a fake Twitter account @Sadiya_farouq_ has been created in my name.
“I wish to inform my followers and well meaning Nigerians to disregard the handle and any information posted on it. My official Twitter handle remains @Sadiya_farouq.”
The reports about the Minister’s alleged affair with Buhari became virile following the absence of the First Lady Aisha Buhari from Nigeria at the time.
Aisha later returned after weeks of her trip to Saudi Arabia and London.
