Driver docked over alleged theft, damage of employer’s N200m generator

A 43-year-old driver, Musa Ibrahim, on Thursday appeared before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing cable worth N197,000 and damaging employer’s generator, valued N200 million.

Ibrahim, who is facing a two-count charge of theft and malicious damage, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Edet Okoi told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on Feb. 26 at 7.00 a.m at Frajend Group of Companies, Shapati, Ibeju-Lekki.

Okoi said that the defendant, a driver with the company, stole 16 rolls of 75mm cable, 13 rolls of 95mm cable, 32 cable lock, two annex cable, and nine kick-starters, valued at N197, 000.

He said that Ibrahim maliciously damaged a 500 KVA generator valued at N200 million belonging to the company.

“A security guard caught the defendant while cutting the cables attached to the generator with a handsaw.

“The offenses contravened Sections 287 and 399 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” the prosecutor said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, granted the defendant a bail of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Elias adjourned the case until March 12 for mention.
