Divine Oduduru fails to make Men’s 200m final

Divine Oduduru comes third



Nigeria’s Divine Oduduru failed to make the final of the Men’s 200m athletics event after coming third in the semifinals at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan on Tuesday.

Oduduru finished with a race time of 20.16 behind Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer who ran 20.13 in second place and the winner, Erriyon Knighton who finished the race at 20.02 in Heat 1.

Both Dwyer and Knighton bagged the automatic qualification for the final of the Men’s 200m after taking the first and second position of the first of three heats.

Heat 2 had a dramatic finish as three athletes ended the race at the same time, making it more difficult for the Nigerian to secure qualification.

Canada’s Aaron Brown, Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh and N. Lyles of the United States were inseparable after finishing the race in 19.99.

Oduduru’s hopes were dashed in the third Heat after Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards booked the final spot ahead of the Nigerian by running six seconds faster.

Canada’s Andre De Grasse came first in the third Heat with a race time of 19.73, followed by Kenny Bednarek of the United States with 19.83 while Richards finished with 20.10.
