Disturbing animal cruelty video shows monkey being shaved like man (video)
A disturbing footage of a monkey being shaved by its captor has emerged.
The video underlines the extent of cruelty going on in the illegal exotic pet trade.
The monkey’s captor wore slipper and pyjamas for it then shaved the fur on its face making the animal disturbingly humanlike with a crew-cut hairstyle.
In the video, it can be observed that the animal pointed to one side of its cheek then tilts its head backwards while being shaved, suggesting it has become used to the bizarre act.
The footage is believed to have been filmed in Indonesia earlier this year.
The video which has enraged a lot of animal rights supporters has also generated comments condemning the act.
“They don’t make good pets, they are expensive and dangerous. A lot of people modify them by having the teeth removed and I have seen where they get the tips of the fingers altered so the nails don’t grow. It’s cruel. Very, very cruel,” said a commentator quoted by Dailymail.
According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the exotic pet trade is a multi-billion dollar industry, second only to drugs and weapons on the black market. However, many of the animals traded rarely see a happy ending. They end up on pain and misery most of the time.
According to PETA.org: “When trappers take animals away from their natural habitats, the animals often change hands several times through intermediaries and exporters, and they endure gruelling transport conditions.
“In one case, a man who was arrested at the Los Angeles airport had Asian leopard cats in a backpack, birds of paradise in additional luggage, and pygmy monkeys in his underwear.”
