Christian Eriksen collapsed for the second time during a football match on Sunday during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine in Odense.
The incident came five years after the 34-year-old midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during a European Championship match against Finland in 2021.
“Christian Eriksen is conscious and doing well under the circumstances,” the Danish football association wrote on social media.
The association’s statement quoted the national team doctor, Morten Boesen, as saying Eriksen walked off the pitch by himself and that his pacemaker responded appropriately.
“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should,” Boesen said.
“He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.”
“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.”
“But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay,” Boesen added.
Eriksen, who plays for Manchester United, returned to football after the 2021 incident with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device fitted in his chest. He resumed his career with Brentford before moving to Old Trafford.
