The Delta State Police Command has apprehended several suspects linked to armed robbery, drug trafficking, and cult-related activities in separate coordinated raids across Ogwashi-Uku and Agbor, recovering a firearm, live ammunition, and a cache of illicit drugs.

In a statement released on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the arrests were described as part of ongoing intensified efforts to clamp down on criminal elements across the state.

According to the statement, on September 17, officers from the Ogwashi-Uku Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Israel Okomoyon, conducted a joint patrol in collaboration with local vigilantes. During the operation, three men riding a motorcycle within the town were intercepted and searched.

The suspects—Emmanuel Ibekwe (25), Victor Chibuzor (25), and Zakaria Joro (25), all residents of Ogwashi-Uku—were found in possession of an English pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition.

“The Police said the suspects could not provide any satisfactory explanation for being in possession of the firearm. They were immediately taken into custody, and both they and the recovered weapon were transferred to the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation,” the statement said.

In a separate operation, the Command disclosed that on September 13, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, under the leadership of SP Danyaya Yunusa, joined forces with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS) to carry out a raid on a hotel situated along the Asaba/Benin Expressway in Agbor.

“Similarly, on September 13, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, in collaboration with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), stormed a hotel along the Asaba/Benin Expressway in Agbor, following credible intelligence.

“The raid led to the arrest of ten adult suspects, including the hotel owner, identified as Markwuye Peter of Ifeanchukwu Street, Agbor. A substantial quantity of illicit drugs was recovered from the premises. The suspects are currently in custody, while discreet investigations are underway to determine the scope of their alleged criminal activities,” Edafe stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the efforts of the operatives, noting that the successful arrests highlight the Command’s reinforced operational strategy based on intelligence-led policing, community collaboration, and rapid response.

He called on residents to maintain vigilance and support the Police with timely and credible information, assuring the public that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property throughout Delta State.
