The Delta State Government has dismissed reports claiming that former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has died, describing the information circulating on some online platforms as false.

According to Vanguard, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Ossai Ovie Success, said he personally confirmed that the former governor was alive after speaking with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Success said he contacted the family after receiving several enquiries about the reports.

“I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead,” he wrote.

“I immediately reached out to his family to confirm. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, on the phone, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr. Uduaghan is alive.”

He condemned those responsible for spreading the rumour, describing the reports as irresponsible and hurtful to the former governor’s family and the people of Delta State.

“Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel, irresponsible, and causes unnecessary pain to the family and millions of Deltans who hold him in high regard,” he said.

Success urged members of the public to disregard the reports and avoid sharing unverified information.

The clarification followed reports by some online media outlets on Tuesday night claiming that the former Delta State governor had died, a claim the state government has now firmly denied.
