Community leaders in Ogbeozoma, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State are calling for justice following a violent attack by suspected land grabbers.

The ambush on July 22, 2024, resulted in the death of two policemen and injuries to several others.

The attack has sparked outrage, and leaders Diokpa Egwuagu Aninye and Chief Felix Ikejiani have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

According to the petition, the attackers used “sophisticated weapons and earth-moving equipment” during the assault. This resulted in the fatal shooting of the two policemen and the destruction of properties.

“This incident is the latest in a series of violent acts by the gang, who are accused of land grabbing and terrorizing our community,” the petition stated. “We are issuing this SOS to urgently request that the Inspector General of Police direct a thorough investigation into these heinous crimes.”

The community leaders also alleged that the gang has been evading justice due to their connections with high-ranking security officials. The police have confirmed the attack and have arrested some suspects, but the gang leader remains at large.

“We call on the Delta State governor and the Inspector General of Police to intervene immediately to ensure that the investigation is not compromised,” the petition continued. “We demand a thorough investigation, and if there is enough evidence, the culprits must be charged to court.”

The community is also calling for protection from further attacks as they await justice for the victims.
