Delta assembly reverses sack of accountant after 24 years
The Delta State House of Assembly overturned the dismissal of Mr. Emmanuel Emenetie by the Post Primary Education Board 24 years ago.
Emenetie complained about his unfair dismissal by the Post Primary Education Board on February 17, 2000, to the Assembly.
In his petition, he requested to be reinstated as a Permanent Secretary, with all financial benefits, dating back to the day of his termination. Additionally, he sought compensation of N4,800,000.00 for the years he spent without employment.
During Tuesday’s session presided over by Speaker Hon Emomotimi Guwor, the lawmakers unanimously agreed that the dismissal was illegal and should be nullified.
The lawmakers recommended that Emenetie be paid all his salaries and entitlements from the time of his unlawful termination until he has reached the rank of Director, which should have been his current rank until his supposed retirement.
They further directed that Emenetie should retire at the grade level of a Director and mandated the Chairman of the Post Primary Education Board and the Head of Service of Delta State to ensure compliance with the directives of the House.
The Speaker commended the report of the Public Petitions Committee and instructed the House Clerk to communicate the decision to the relevant authorities. The Deputy Speaker was tasked with ensuring compliance with the directives.
