Former vice presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to leave the Labour Party, stating clearly that he will not defect alongside Peter Obi to another political platform.

His declaration has put an end to speculations surrounding his political future as the 2027 general election approaches.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party, describing it as the platform that produced him as vice presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

He emphasized that his political journey remains firmly rooted in the party and is not influenced by shifting political alliances.

Baba-Ahmed, who was Peter Obi’s running mate in the last presidential contest, said he has no plans to follow the former Anambra State governor after his exit from the Labour Party.
Obi recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform being advanced by a coalition of opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists at the Labour Party national headquarters, the former senator representing Kaduna North made it clear that he would not take the same political path. He explained that his decision was guided by personal conviction and long-term political objectives.

Explaining his position further, Baba-Ahmed said he is unconvinced by the ADC project, describing those behind the coalition as “disgruntled politicians.”
According to him, the platform does not offer the kind of political direction Nigeria urgently requires.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to national service, saying he remains willing to contribute to efforts aimed at fixing Nigeria and would make himself available to serve the country ahead of the 2027 elections.

While acknowledging his previous partnership with Obi, Baba-Ahmed stressed that political decisions must be driven by principles rather than personal relationships. He insisted that his focus remains on strengthening the Labour Party and positioning it as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
Recall that Politics Nigeria had earlier reported Peter Obi’s exit from the Labour Party and his adoption of the ADC as part of a broader opposition coalition aimed at unseating the APC in the next general election.
