Cultists kill 500-level UNIBEN student

Published

A 500-level student was reportedly shot dead at the University of Benin campus during a renewed cult war involving rival cult groups on Friday night.

The incident led to three other students sustaining various degrees of injuries during the attack.

The injured students were quickly rushed to the hospital for immediate medical treatment.

According to reports, trouble started when a cult group allegedly stormed the Anatomy Department’s back gate with the intent of targeting their victim.

Following this, the group moved to the Physical Science and Laboratory Departments after students had completed their examinations.

The deceased student was shot at close range while the three others were shot as they tried to escape from the gunmen.

Sources claimed that the rival cult confrontation initially began in the Ekiadolor area, a subset of the school several days ago.

It led to the alleged killing of about three individuals before extending to the Ugbowo campus of the institution.

A viral video of the incident showed a red car riddled with bullet holes. The lifeless body of a man was seen being removed from the car and placed into the back of a pick-up van.

As of now, the Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that he was yet to receive information about the incident.

He mentioned, “I am yet to be briefed of such an incident. When I get the brief, I will let you know, but for now, no information.”

This incident is a stark reminder of a similar tragedy a few months ago when a final year student was shot dead in his room by unknown gunmen at Hall 3 hostel within the university.
