Cristiano Ronaldo was diagnosed with a viral infection, causing him to miss Al Nassr’s Asian Champions League match against Al Shorta in Iraq on Monday. Without their captain, Al Nassr struggled and ended the match in a 1-1 draw.
The Saudi club released a statement the day before the match, explaining Ronaldo’s condition: “Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t feeling well today and was diagnosed with a viral infection.
The team’s doctor confirmed he needs to rest and stay at his place. As a result, he will not be travelling with the team to Iraq today. We wish a speedy recovery to our captain.”
Al Nassr, who were knocked out in last season’s Asian Champions League quarter-finals, started strong despite Ronaldo’s absence. Full-back Sultan Al Ghannam scored in the 14th minute after receiving a precise pass from Otavio, putting the ball past Al Shorta’s goalkeeper, Ahmed Basil.
Despite the early lead, Al Nassr couldn’t hold on, and the match ended in a draw. Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr last season, has yet to win a major trophy with the Saudi club.
Fans of Ronaldo and Al Nassr are hoping for his quick recovery, as his presence is crucial for the team’s success in the ongoing tournament.
