Court orders lady to buy ankara fabrics, four chickens as compensation for her mom she insulted

A local court in Zambia has ordered a woman in the capital city of Lusaka to buy two chitenge (ankara) materials and four chickens as compensation for her mother whom she insulted.

The mother one Elizabeth Daka, 71, reportedly sued her daughter Fostina Daka for disrespecting and insulting her.

According to The Zambian Sun, Elizabeth told senior local court magistrate Mpundu Fwambo that on a certain day, Fostina and her sister were fighting when she started to advise them to be getting along as siblings.

“In the evening Fostina got drunk and started insulting me. She hit me with a stone and her child was the one who came and tried to talk to her. She continued insulting me like I’m not her mother.

“She insults me every time she gets drunk and has no respect for me. She even insults me in front of her children. I advised her to stop drinking because that’s when she becomes a problem but she doesn’t want to stop,” she said.

She urged the court to punish her daughter and teach her to be a better person.

In defence Fostina denied insulting her mother and told the court that issues between her and her mother came about because she and her sister were staying in their mother’s house.

“We were paying my mother K350 as rent. When she put electricity in the house, she increased the rent to K700. I told her the house was too small and the amount was too much but she insisted so we continued paying her,” Fostina said.

She said her mother often got upset and asked them to leave after any small misunderstanding.

“Because of her BP, she always gets upset and asks us to leave her house. She gets so upset and even slaps me sometimes. But I am very sorry if I said anything bad to her and I want her to forgive me because she is my mother and I respect her,” she said.

The court found that Fostina most likely insulted her mother and because she asked for forgiveness as Elizabeth’s biological daughter, the court only asked her to buy two chitenge materials and four chickens for her mother as compensation for the insults.
