Court asks businessman arraigned for trespass, theft to pay N10,000 or be jailed three months
An upper Area Court , sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Plateau State on Thursday has sentenced a businessman Christopher Essien to three months imprisonment for trespass and attempted theft.
A panel of two Magistrates, Ghazali Adam and Hyacinth Dolnaan, sentenced Essien after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The panel gave him an option to pay a fine of N10,000.
They said that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported on December 23, 2021, at the ‘A’ Division Police station by Ifeoma Chidi, the complainant.
Dabit said that the convict was caught inside the complainant’s house with a bunch of keys.
He said that people reported several housebreak and theft in the same compound.
The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under the provisions of Section 333 of the Plateau state Penal Code law.
