Coronavirus: Nursing mom, baby, American who entered Nigeria on bike among five new cases
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said a Nigerian mother and her six-week-old baby are among the five new confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
The Ministry of Health had announced that the five new COVID-19 cases had brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country to eight.
The NCDC, in a statement on their website, said the six-week-old baby became the youngest Coronavirus patient in the country.
The NCDC quoted the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire, as saying the out of the five new confirmed cases, “three had arrived from the United States, while two had come in from the United Kingdom.
“Though we are still collating information on the travellers, we know that two of the three from the US are Nigerian mother and child, making the six-week-old baby the youngest Corona patient we have, and the 3rd is an American national, who crossed the land border as a biker and becomes the first case Corona not arriving by air.
“A detailed travel history of each person is being compiled and contacts being traced as I speak, to identify persons who have recently been in contact with anyone.
“The National Emergency Operations Centre led by NCDC and supported by partners is supporting response in the states. The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health is conducting risk assessment to help guide decision making.
“We urge citizens not to panic but allow experts in public health to guide response in a calculated, scientific manner. False information and rumour to cause fear and panic must be avoided at such times. We know that the COVID-19 cases appear to have mild symptoms and are in recovery.”
The NCDC further urged Nigerians to continue to take measures to protect themselves, while assuring that the federal government wiould do the needful to protect citizens’ health.
