Basketball legend LeBron James has praised United States forward Folarin Balogun after the striker celebrated his World Cup goal with James’ famous “Silencer” gesture during the USA’s victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Vanguard, Balogun found the net twice in the 2-0 win on Wednesday, although his first goal was ruled out for offside. After both efforts, the 24-year-old recreated James’ trademark celebration.

Reacting to the moment, James took to X to congratulate the striker.

“THE (Silencer) HAS (Arrived) at the World Cup! Helluva goal there Young (King)!” he wrote.

The post quickly gained widespread attention, attracting nearly four million views.

James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, is well known for the “Silencer” celebration, which he performs after scoring crucial baskets. The move, involving raised knees, lowered palms and a chest tap, symbolises silencing opponents and critics.

Balogun, who was born in New York, raised in London and now plays club football in France, is a well-known basketball fan.

Vanguard reported that when United States Soccer was trying to convince him to represent the country instead of England or Nigeria, officials flew him to Florida and treated him to courtside NBA tickets.

Balogun has scored three goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping the United States reach the Round of 16. However, he will miss Monday’s knockout clash against Belgium after receiving a red card during the victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

James, meanwhile, recently announced that he will leave the Los Angeles Lakers but continue his NBA career with another franchise for a record 24th season.
