Controversial wedding: Nigerians backs Wofai, Taiwo Cole

Published

Nigerians on social media have rallied behind Nollywood actress Wofai Ewa, fondly known as Wofai Fada, and Taiwo Cole following the controversies that trailed their wedding about 24 hours after posting phots online.

Initially, the Cole family disavowed knowledge of their son, Taiwo Olakitan Cole’s union with the actress, issuing a disclaimer regarding the ceremony. However, the engagement announcement and subsequent traditional ceremony, shared widely on social media on May 4th, garnered significant attention.

Taking to her Instagram page, the actress officially disclosed the union. Nonetheless, the Cole family, represented by Engineer Kunle Cole, issued a statement distancing themselves from the marriage event, asserting their non-participation and disapproval.

In their statement, the Cole family emphasized, “All publications and documents being circulated about this are to be disregarded.”

The Cole’s stance has incited diverse reactions across social media platforms. Many users have weighed in, expressing their opinions on the matter.

An X user, Mistress E. commenting on the matter wrote “This Wofai talk is wild cos a lot you are worse than the Cole’s Family. The only difference is you are not as bold or have any legacy you’re gatekeeping. Also a lot of you won’t let your siblings marry an older woman or single mother. Let’s stop the pretense and keep it moving.

Another user X, diaryofanaijagirl in her opinion on the matter wrote “Who addresses themselves as “The Cole Family of Victoria Island”?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If I hear that when we’re replying my in-laws when they want to pay something on my head and my father does not address us as “The Agoro Family of Shogunle” let me know what happen.
How would your family members address themselves in a disclaimer letter?”

Still reacting to the uproar, an Instagram user wrote “Never marry into a family that doesn’t want you, Loves fades. The journey will drain you. Especially a rich family.”

More comments from Instagram users suggested that it is very important for families to accept the marriage before going ahead.

Facebook users were not left out in the online debate.

A Facebook user Jonathan Grellet Oba wrote, “According to the family, they said the girl is 38 while their son is 30 that they won’t support their son to marry a woman is older than him with 8 years… All these brouhaha is as a result of the age difference but if I were to be lady or she was my sister, I would have asked her not to continue with the wedding 💍 to avoid family battles. Only marry into a family that accepts you even if they don’t later, wait if you can until they do. This is Africa not Europe remember. Family battles are real, save me from temptation prayer is easier to pray than oh Lord deliver from temptation! Thank you.”

Another Facebook user, Ose sure, stated that, “When you come from a family where your choice and peace of mind is respected you don’t know what God has done for you. Mostly in wealthy families your choice and decision doesn’t matter if it doesn’t suit their lifestyle, selfish reasons, and political agenda.”

The alleged twin sister of Wofai’s husband has also congratulated the duo on their marriage encouraging them to let love lead.
